Latest Virus News

Here are the best ways to avoid a virus problem:

  • Visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com often for important patches that seal off vulnerabilities. Many Windows machines have an "Automatic Updating" icon in the control panel that can help.
  • Make sure that your antivirus software not only has updated "virus definitions" but that the program itself is a recent version. Some viruses can shut off older antivirus programs.
  • Be careful opening e-mail, even if it is from a known source. Viruses can fake "To:" and "From:" addresses. If the attachment has an icon that looks unusual, skip it.
  • Use paper and pencil instead of a computer (just kidding)

Helpful Tips and Hints

The Windows Right-Click

If you "Right-Click" just about anything in Windows, you'll get a menu called a "Context Menu". Depending on the item and the situation, it shows you the appropriate options for handling the item such as Copy, Paste, Rename, Properties, Save As and many more. It's a very quick and handy way to do some of the most common things in Windows.

Shut it down

When your system has problems, whether it's internet connection, printing, sound or whatever, the first step to fixing it is simply to shut down. If the problem involves peripheral hardware such as a printer, scanner, or cable modem, shut that down as well. Give it all a minute and turn it back on again, peripherals first.
